It is that time of year again where the sun is shining, the BBQ’s are on and the smell of Smokey skewers cooking slowly on the grill, wafting into our gardens, making our mouths water! The factor 50 is on and the sun chairs are out! This can only mean one thing… Summer has officially arrived (Hooray). Although, has anyone noticed how dark its getting before 8pm?! Anyway… moving on.
Either way ‘summer’ can be the perfect excuse to upgrade your lighting, which is why we have carefully handpicked and curated a selection of our top picks reflecting this year’s summer trends of bold black, neutrals, gold tones and pops of colour.
This year has seen some amazing interior and lighting trends. In the winter and autumn months we saw bright colours, which were heavily influenced from the 60’s era. In the summer the trend changed and we have seen a lot of neutral tones and pastel colours as well as hints of bold blacks, highlighting contrast throughout the home.
We find mood boards and collages to be an effective way of getting our ideas down visually and bringing our thoughts to life, which is why we have created a selection for you, to show off some of our amazing lights that suit the different styles of summer 2019.
The colour black can be a great lighting tool, which adds a striking contrast to any room and can also work well as a statement piece. From a matt finish to a glossy finish, there are endless ways to incorporate this trend into your home. We think that these striking pendant lights would work perfectly over the dining table or Kitchen Island, but they can be integrated into any space.
Another great way to incorporate these bold black tones is through the use of our braided black cable. Pairing this with a filament bulb can be a stylish design that can give an industrial, as well as a modern twist and there are so many stunning ways to execute this, so get creative!
Powder blues and blush pinks are the perfect pastel pallet to brighten up your home this summer. With florals becoming more and more popular as of recent, pastels have seen an increase in popularity too and we are loving it! Below are some of our favourite pastel lights that can bring a fresh pop of colour to any home and would be eye-catching in country-themed home.
Some of our favourites from this pastel edit include the Coolicon shades (1), first produced in 1933 these timeless classics are available in an array of outstanding pastels. Originally designed to light Britain’s factories and workshops, these beautiful and well-designed lights have unsurprisingly come back in fashion.
As well as the Coolicon shade, the test tube chandelier (7) is another all-time favourite of ours. Being super quirky, this shade provides a truly amazing and unique way of displaying flowers; both real and fake they will be sure to add a pop of colour as well as elegance to any space and can also be changed depending on the time of year!
Golds and neutrals
Influenced by Scandinavian interior and the hygge lifestyle becoming increasingly desired, it is no surprise that this gold and neutral lighting trend has become popular as a way to bring warmth and comfort to your home.
Hygge -> (pronounced hue-guh – ultimately definable as encompassing the feeling of contentment and comfiness).
The subtle touches of natural elements and materials such as concretes and wood, along with the glow of gold and warm white lights is reminiscent of Scandinavian styled interiors, providing comfort to any household. Many of these designs have a curvaceous shape to them, making them eye-catching and unique, whilst adding to the contemporariness of your home. We feel that these lights would work beautifully in a modern and minimalistic home, bringing hygge to any room that you so wish.
We hope that this post has given you some new ideas on how to update your homes with these timeless but current summer trends.
